The wild life census, which focuses on tigers in Ranthambhore National Park, Swai Madhopur and Sariska tiger reserve in Alwar, is scheduled on June 1.

The department would also take the services of Wild Life Institute, Dehradun, to ascertained the exact number of tigers in the two tiger reserves. According to official sources, two techniques, namely, pug mark system and water whole counting, would be followed simultaneously to count the exact number of the beast.

The past results of the census of the two reserve, which claimed that there is no trace of the beast in the forest, created lot of sensation among the wild life lovers. The decrease in number of big cats, from 46 in 2004 to 26 in 2005 was alarming. However, experts refused to believe the figures of census 2004, and said that the number was for below than the claimed by the authorities after the census.

After last year's census, the authorities conceded that illegal poaching was the main reason for decline in number of tigers. The government had initiated action against those officials who were posted there in 2004 and increase the security.
