The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) held review meetings spanning over two days with field staff of the police and forest department personnel posted in Chattarpur and Panna districts.

Both Panna and Chattarpur are extremely sensitive districts as far as poaching is concerned. Sansar Chand's arrest in Delhi last year had unearthed a trail leading to these districts of the Bundelkhand region.

PCCF Wildlife PB Gangopadhyay while speaking to the Pioneer said that the objective behind the meeting was to streamline the working of the field staff in both districts. Future strategies to check poaching and improve the working of the both law enforcement wings, the police and forest department, were discussed at the meeting. The first meeting was held at Panna while the second one was held at Khajuraho on Thursday.

Panna National Park and the forests adjoining the Park lying in the territorial forest division had gained notoriety for poaching. Notorious poacher Sansar Chand's arrest had revealed that a number of tiger skins sold by him had been procured from his contacts in Panna and Chattarpur.

The police and forest department had earlier in joint operations arrested some key operatives of the Sansar Chand gang and had also seized a large quantity of animal merchandise from them. The successful arrests were a pointer to the increased coordination between the police and forest department.

Apart from the PCCF (wildlife) those who attended the meeting include, DIG Chattarpur Varun Kapoor, SP Panna, SP Chattarpur Yogesh Chaudhry, Director Panna National Park Shahbaz Ahmed, Deputy Director AK Nagar, Conservator Chattarpur, DFO Panna and DFO Chattarpur.
