GREATER NOIDA: After Noida Authority penalized allottees nearly a crore of rupees in two days for flouting norms laid down by the National Green Tribunal(NGT), Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) on Saturday swung into action against air pollution. The Authority has divided the city into 5 zones and launched a special anti-pollution drive. Separate teams are scouring the city for anyone violating "green norms".

According to GNIDA officials, the focus is to ensure all citizens and stakeholders comply with the laid down norms of the tribunal. "On Saturday we have undertaken sprinkling of water in several spots across the city so that there is no dust pollution," said Debashish Panda, CEO, GNIDA. "We are also using a mobile public address system to create awareness amongst the public about the air pollution and do's and don't's. All construction activity has been stopped," he added.

A host of numbers has also been released by GNIDA, in order to urge all stakeholders to lodge complaints against violators to curb pollution. Panda has urged all stakeholders to follow norms in mitigating pollution in the city. "Everyone needs to take preventive, precautionary and curative measures to stop pollution," he said. "No one should burn crop stubble, no construction material should be left uncovered on street sides, don't throw or burn garbage in the open, do not burn plastic or green waste, do not defecate in the open," he said.

"To control dust pollution, as per ministry of environment and forest (MoEF) guidelines released in 2010, it is mandatory for construction sites to put sheets on construction material, sprinkle water on dust, etc," he said.

Anyone found to be flouting norms will be fined heavily and could be anything from Rs 5000 to Rs 500,000, he warned. He further asked the public to lodge complaints of those found violating the 'green' rules. Complaints can be lodged at the DM's office at 0120- 2552552, SSP office 0120- 2473300, 24514750, or Greater Noida Authority's WhatsApp number 8800882124, 7982061243 or 0120-2326335, 2326155.

All steps and action taken to curb air pollution will be reviewed by the Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Till further orders strict compliance will be ensured and compliance will be filed with the CEO on a daily basis, GNIDA officials said.
