Steep rise in Diwali pollution in commercial areas this year

| Aparna Banerji Jalandhar, October 25 While a marginal reduction was registered in the ambient air pollution level in the district this Diwali, compared to last year, there has been a marginal rise in the level of noise pollution registered before and on Diwali this year. However, the noise level registered during the burning of the Ravana effigy in the district were higher than those registered during the peak hours of Diwali. While the average level of pre-Diwali pollution in the district (recorded on October 12, 2017) were 56 Leq db (A), the noise pollution recorded on Diwali was 62.3 Leq db (A) , As Reported By Tribune.
According to the Newspaper,While on Diwali, the commercial areas recorded a seven-point rise in pollution, whereas six-point rise in pollution from pre to post Diwali was recorded in residential areas. In sensitive areas, there was a five-point rise in pollution level compared to pre-Diwali noise pollution level. The noise pollution level in residential, commercial and sensitive areas before Diwali was 57 Leq db (A), 63 Leq db (A) and 49 Leq db (A) m, respectively.
