Hyderabad: South Zone Task Force on Wednesday arrested a meat vendor who was found selling meat of wild animals and birds. The arrested was identified as Syed Zameer of Jahanuma, who runs a meat shop at Murgi Chowk.

Police seized meat of two black bucks, 24 jungle quails, seven hares and two water birds. Police said Zameer had been getting the meat from one Ramesh of Dandupally of Manoharabad in Toopran and selling the same at higher prices. Police suspect the illegal business might be going on for more than two years.

Based on the information given by Zameer, police arrested Ramesh and handed them over to the Forest Department along with the meat of wild animals and birds seized from the shop.

The forest officials took over the case and are questioning Zameer and Ramesh for ascertaining the source of the meat and to identify whether any other organised gangs of poaching were active in the forests of Telangana.

Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, ManoranjanBhanja said stern action will be taken against the poachers.
