Animal trackers trackers deployed for the purpose

Mancherial Forest Department has undertaken a massive awareness campaign among villages lying in and around Nilwai reserve forest range in Vemanpallimandal where a tiger is being sighted since the last 30 days. The department is also taking other measures like releasing cattle kill compensation to farmers in order to avert poaching of the animal. It may be recalled that a tiger had been electrocuted early in December last year in Chennur range which is about 50 km from Nilwai. “We do not want such incidents to recur and hence a tab is being kept on people known or suspected to be poachers,” observed Mancherial District Forest Officer B. Prabhakar.

The Forest Department is monitoring the movement of the tiger closely and has deployed animal trackers for the purpose. The personnel are looking for snares or electric wires that may harm the sub-adult tiger.
