Seven industrial units in the Rai belt have been sealed by a team of the pollution control board on Friday for allegedly discharging contaminated water in drain No. 6 and 8 and polluting the air.

After receiving complaints from residents located along these drains that the chemically polluted water was being discharged by the industries, a team of the state pollution board led by a board officer, R.K. Sharma, raided the units and found seven units — four units of leather manufacturing for releasing chemically polluted water in the drains and three other units creating air pollution.

However, it is interesting that the board had acted swiftly to redress the grievances of the people of these villages; it has not initiated any action.

The complaints of these villages are of more serious nature as all ponds of these villages are filled with chemically polluted water being allegedly discharged in drain No. 4 by some dying units of Panipat. The drain passes through the ponds of these villages and the flow of polluted water has been continuing for the past many months.
