Palanpur: A voluntary organisation, Federation of Indian Animal (FIA), working in the LittelRann of Kutch region, has claimed that they have found carcasses of wild ass, black buck, blue bull and some pelicans who seemed to have been killed by poachers.
KanaiyalalRajgaur of FIA and his team has further claimed that they had handed apprehended three poachers and handed them over to the forest officials. But the poachers somehow managed to escape from the custody.
The Little Rann of Kutch (LRK), that also houses the Wild Ass Sanctuary, is the only place on earth where one can find endangered Indian Wild Ass known locally as the 'Ghudkhar'. The LRK is habitat of over 4,000 wild asses, besides chikaras, black bucks, wild boars, jackals and migratory birds.
"The poachers had confessed to have killed a black buck. However they denied killing the wild ass," said Rajgaur.
Giving details of the recovery of the carcasses Rajgaur said carcass of black buck was recovered on December 11, while that of wild ass was found on December 17. Five white dead while pelicans were found on December 23, however one was found in injured condition. "We have handed over the carcasses to forest department," he added.
Range Forest officer of Adesar, YA Kureshi said, "Poaching of the wild ass is not convincing as killing it was not worth the trouble. We do believe that black buck might have been killed by some poachers on the instance of the farmers for damaging the crop."
