Reviewing the steps taken by various land owning agencies for the prohibition of burning of garbage, dry leaves, waste, plastic, rubber etc in the open and dust control measures at construction sites, Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Monday asked all the agencies to intensify air pollution control measures through increased vigil.
Hussain during a high level meeting held here, observed that though the agencies are taking action against the violators, there is pressing need to intensify inspections especially during on-going winter season when air pollution problem tends to aggravate with meteorological conditions of the city, as seen from past experience. The Minister also emphasised the need to increase the vigil during this period so that instances of violations of dust control norms and burning in open could be minimised as otherwise these factors could add to air pollution much to the discomfort of citizens of Delhi especially senior citizens and young children.
He also directed Nodal Officers of the Departments to attend the next meeting along with action taken reports (ATR) on the complaints relating to pollution being received by them through DPCC’s Whatsapp Group and also through Swacch Delhi app launched by UD Department. During the meeting, various land owning agencies informed the Minister about action being taken against violators of dust control norms and those found indulging in burning of waste matter in open.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of Environment Department, Delhi Pollution Control Committee and nodal officers from Revenue Department, Delhi Development Authority, New Delhi Municipal Council, East/North/South MCDs, Delhi Cantonment Board, Central Public Works Department, PWD, Traffic Police and Transport Department.
