Vijayawada: Global warming leads to torrential rains and which results in floods and the water going waste, said Waterman of India Rajendra Singh and adding that rains in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai were the best examples.
"Everywhere in the world, there is fight for water. In India there is fight among southern States for water. Without knowing the use of water at every level, the projects are being built. These projects lead to disaster”, he said
"We should know the value of water.
People living in rural areas know the value of water and its use, compared to urban people," said Prasanna Kumar, environmental activist at a programmeorganised at NavyandhraPusthakaSambaralu, Swaraja Maidan, Vijayawada on Sunday.
He said that the urban people do not know how to use water. The city people are experts in wasting water and making water useless. Still they keep teaching the concept of water conservation to the rural people.
“Due to the environmental change, we get heavy rains in a short span of time, which leads to water wastage," he said.
BhaskaraRamana Murthy, retired IFS, said: "Birds are perishing due to manmade water scarcity. ‘Bangarupichuka’ will build its nests on trees and wells, the nest will not get submerged even in heavy rains and floods. The existence of the birds is at threat due to global warming and scarcity of water."
"Expansion of urban cities led to destruction and climate change," said Uma Maheshwari, author of book on Polavaram.
She said, "The Polavaram project will destroy environment. If we obstruct the flow of water by constructing the projects what happens to the glaciers in future, which is at risk."
