As the winter season in northern India is heading to its peak, air pollution level have entered severe zone in Delhi, especially in bordering areas like Anand Vihar and Punjabi Bagh. Delhi Environment Department officials reviewed concentration of PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels in these areas.
Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain today directed all agencies to take up urgent measures to look into the situation. Meanwhile, Delhi Environment Department has released a comparative data from November 1 onwards, showing gradual increasing in level from PM 2.5 to PM 10. As per the environment department data released by Delhi government shows that different pollutants--non- dispersal of pollutants with low temperature and low wind speed--led to an increase in pollution levels on December 23 and December 24 due to. However, since yesterday, ambient air quality has improved due to better wind speed in the NCR.
The increased levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10 around bordering areas like Anand Vihar and Punjabi Bagh made it into worst breathing zone.
In the review meet on Monday, Kejriwal government directed the Environment Department to ask the DDA, NDMC, North MCD, South MCD, East MCD, PWD, Transport and Revenue Departments, Delhi Traffic Police and Delhi Cantonment Board to intensify urgent air pollution controlling measures in Anand Vihar and Punjabi Bagh areas including sprinkling of water, mechanical sweeping of roads, strict vigil to check burning of leaves, garbage and dust generated due to constructional activities. Government further directed enforcement agencies to take stringent action against plying of vehicles without valid PUC, visibly polluting vehicles, overloaded vehicles, non-destined vehicles.
