HYDERABAD: The state government is not 'removing' pollution, but `moving' pollution from one place to another, said Babu Rao, (retd) chief scientist, IICT.He was speaking at an event, `Water and Air Pollution: Impact on life and planet: Way forward', held in the Government City College on Tuesday.

"It is the human race that is causing mass extinction and technology that is bringing misery instead of well-being. It is better not to create pollution because it can't be cleaned up," added Rao.

Sharing the dais with him was SagarDhara, former UNEP consultant and environmental engineer, who proposed the setting up of an environmental cell at the city college.

Calling for an immediate plan to control pollution, he pointed out how the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project is one such step in the right direction.

LubnaSarwath of Save Our Urban Lakes called upon the college to stand up for the rejuvenation of River Musi and for stopping of all pollutants from flowing into it, even as students wondered if that could be achieved.
