We, all are aware of the fact, how abnormal changes in climatic patterns are affecting the entire globe and its ecosystem. Fuelling this concern more, a new study report has come to the forefront which has put light on the harsh impacts of climate change on different water bodies of the Globe including Arctic. A survey conducted by the scientists from the University of Southampton in the UK including an Indian-origin researcher has revealed that the ice sheets of Arctic Lakes are melting at a faster pace than expectation. The stronger lake ice of Arctic is found to be thawing one day earlier than the assumption each year, because of the impacts of warmth climatic temperature.

According to a group of UK-based researchers from the University of Southampton, the Arctic lakes which are happened to be covered with brawny ice layers during the winter months are thawing out one day before than the proposed timeline. Such faster melting of hard ice sheets are triggered because of the callous effects of global warming on the biological ecosystems of the world, researchers warned.

The study also highlights that not only the ecosystem, the lights and climatic patterns are also being affected by the global warming, which is indirectly influencing the glacial and deicing processes of the lakes and other water sources in the world. According to the lead analyst of the study, during the survey through the satellite imagery, they have found Arctic Lakes to be extremely affected by the climate change, tempered atmosphere, and reflecting patterns of lights and sun rays on it.

The scientists, during the study, monitored the regular activities and movement of 13,300 lakes from across the globe through Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor implemented by NASA. By analyzing the images and metaphors beamed back by MODIS, the scientists found the Arctic Lakes being thawing out one day earlier than the expected rate annually.

The study, published in the scholastic journal of “Nature journal Scientific Reports” stated that the researchers have surveyed the database of 14-year – between 2000 and 2013 and have monitored 13, 300 lakes. Among all those surveyed lakes, Arctic Lake is spotted to be extremely influenced because of the global warming and climate changes.
