Government to roll out 500 CNG buses to check pollution

GURUGRAM: After being reprimanded by the NGT for failing to take adequate measures to contain the growing air pollution, the state government has finally decided that all the 500 buses, part of the proposed Gurgaon city bus service, will run on CNG.

The decision was taken bychief minister Manohar Lal Khattarduring the NCR planning board meeting held in Delhi on Tuesday.

During the meet, Haryana chief secretary D S Dhesi said, "Provision of green belt has been made alongside all expressways, highways, highways and railway lines passing through Haryana. The GDA has prepared a plan to purchase 500 CNG buses. Apart from this, CNG-run NCR Motor Cab (Taxi) Scheme has also been prepared," he said.

Talking to TOI, V Umashankar, the GDA's officer on special duty, said the CNG-run city bus service is likely to be rolled out within the next 4-5 months.
