GHAZIABAD: The level of PM10 in Kaushambi is more than three times the normal limit. This came to light in an affidavit filed by the UP Pollution Control Board with the NGT on Thursday.

The alarming level of pollution is being attributed to the presence of two inter state bus terminals in the vicinity of the township. The affidavit comes in the wake of the NGT hearing a petition filed by the Kaushambi Apartments Residents' Welfare Association (KARWA) on the issue of air pollution in the Kausambi township. It made the green court to issue directions to seven states to submit a plan on the feasibility of operating CNG buses to Delhi-NCR

Speaking to TOI, the petitioner's lawyer, Bhumika Kapoor, said: "The affidavit submitted by the UPPCBclearly says that PM10 in Kausambhi township was found to be 318 against the normal 100 while the same figure for Vasundhara was found to be 269." The figures arrived after monitoring ambient quality data for 24 hours on December 6.

"The board then attributed the presence of Anand Vihar Bus Terminal and Kausmabhi bus depot in the vicinity of the township as the source of pollution to which the NGT has asked seven states to submit a feasibility plan over operation of CNG buses to or via Delhi-NCR," Kapoor said. The states which have been issued orders are UP, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and MP. "The court has given KARWA time till December 23 to file a response to the affidavit," Kapoor said.
