Cash withdrawal limit starts pinching Indians during climate conference in Marrakech

MARRAKECH: The cash withdrawal limit in the wake of demonetisation decision of the government has started pinching Indians who are in Marrakech to attend the UN climate change conference (COP22) as they cannot withdraw more than 200 Moroccan Dirham (approximately Rs 1,400) a day.

Since small food joints and cab operators do not accept debit\credit cards, the limit of 200 Dirham has really become a problem for those Indians who are solely dependent on cards.

More than 200 Indians, including officials and members of NGOs and think-tanks, are in Marrakech for the Conference. Officials, however, do not face problem at least in terms of meeting their basic needs - thanks to a support system from diplomatic staff and the host country.

As most of the Indians had arrived here for the two-week COP22 before the government's decision of demonetisation, the cash limit has forced them to remain off guard.
