Delhi govt, civic bodies merge apps to register pollution plaints

Decan Herald , Thursday, November 10, 2016
Correspondent :
To bring down air pollution in the national capital, the Delhi government and the municipal corporations launched a mobile application which enables citizens to report cases of vehicular pollution, dust emission at construction sites and burning of waste through video recordings and images.

Earlier, many departments of the Delhi government and municipal corporations had their separate respective mobile applications to register pollution and dust complaints. These apps have been integrated into a single ‘Swacch Delhi’ app.

According to a statement, the Swacch Delhi mobile application allows people to register complains at the single place, which will be then routed to the authorities concerned. This will prevent duplication of complaints, said the statement.

The users will also be notified about the status of their complaints, which is another salient feature of the application. Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, along with Health Minister Satyendar Jain and Environment Minister Imran Hussain, launched the application.

Sisodia said that the government needs the help of citizens to tackle the problem of pollution at the ground level.

“Citizens of Delhi can capture images of offending vehicles causing air pollution and other related activities like burning of leaves, plastic and old tyres, unattended garbage dumps and also construction waste. This will be forwarded to the concerned department and teams will be immediately dispatched to resolve the problem,” Sisodia elaborated.

“Sanitary inspectors will supervise this procedure. In fact, if any issue is not resolved properly then the sanitation inspectors will be asked for an official explanation,” the deputy CM added.

It was also announced that the government’s urban development department will track important data, such as areas with the maximum complaints and the number of complaints registered per day etc.

The government announced that two nodal officers at the urban development department will be responsible for sending complaints to the concerned authorities from 8am to 8pm every day.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that his office will monitor the progress and status of complaints at a fixed interval.
