Correspondent :
Visibility remained extremely low in New Delhi and NCR on Thursday morning as smog engulfed the city for the fourth consecutive day. The pollution levels, or concentration of particulate matter in the air, remained multiple times more than the safe levels.

As per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), levels of Particulate Matter (PM) 10 levels reached a record 500 mark on Wednesday. The forecast suggests that the PM 10 levels will remain severe on Thursday and are expected to fall below 400 on Friday.

The city witnessed low visibility and smog throughout Wednesday evening and night. The reasons for this are a drop in wind speed and rise in humidity in the atmosphere. Such severe pollution levels can cause breathing problems, lung and heart diseases among many other ailments. As per reports, several people complaint of coughing, itching in the eyes and headache due to the bad air quality.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal cancelled a cabinet meeting on Wednesday to discuss the measures to curb rising air pollution in city after the detention of Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. Sisodia and Kejriwal were taken into custody by the Delhi Police after they tried to meet family of deceased ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal on Wednesday.
