Indore to get 3 new air monitoring stations

INDORE: A proposal to install air monitoring stations at 3 new locations in Indore has been sent to the Central Pollution Control Board. The proposal has been sent with an aim to expand the ambit for accurate monitoring in the city which has just 3 monitoring stations since past several years.

As per the guidelines of the National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Programme (NAMP), cities with pollution of over million should have a minimum of 9 ambient air quality monitoring stations.

The board has proposed to set up the air monitoring stations at Mahu Naka, Palasia near water tank and Khandwa road, an official from the Pollution Control Board said.

The department has also sent a proposal to allocate fund of Rs 57 lakhs for the installation of the monitoring stations.

An official at the Central Pollution Control Board who did not wish to be name said, "The installation of the monitoring stations requires additional staff for monitoring, collection and testing at the laboratory."

At present there are three manual air pollution monitoring units in Indore at Sanwer road, Kothari market and Vijay Nagar which each unit working from 6 am to 6 pm twice in a week. Samples are collected manually from these sites and sent to laboratory for analysis and the results take a day to come.
