BENGALURU: Residents of Benniganahalli and Sadananda Nagar have approached the High Court seeking directions to the authorities concerned to stop severe noise and air pollution in their localities. The petition states the construction work of a software company in the residential area on Old Madras Road, is violating pollution norms.

A vacation division bench of Justices AnandByrareddy and Ravi Malimath issued emergent notice to the government and the property manager, M/s RMZ Software Industrial Complex, RMZ Infinity.

The petitioners Seenappa Gowda and three others have made allegations against Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Department of Forests, Ecology and Environment, Chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Commissioner, BBMP, Commissioner of Police and MD of BESCOM.

The petitioners said that two years ago, RMZ Infinity started developing a multistoreyed complex. When the petitioners approached BBMP, the authorities informed that they have granted permission for software industry adjoining the residential layout.

Advocate Shivaprakash, representing the petitioners, contended that the construction work, which commenced in mid- 2014, is causing intolerable sound pollution. The work is carried out day and night for two years and residents are suffering from health disorders, he argued.

He added that the activity is producing sound exceeding 70-80 decibels in the night and 90-100 in the wee hours.

Before approaching the court, numerous representations were submitted to KSPCB. But KSPCB did not take any action, he argued.

He pleaded the court to direct the authorities to take steps to implement Air (prevention and control of pollution) Act, 1981 to stop air and noise pollution in the residential area.
