World Rhino Day celebrated at near Kaziranga ANN

BOKAKHAT, Sept 23 - The World Rhino Day was celebrated at DhansirimukhJanajati High School, 2 km from Bokakhat town, which is adjacent to the Kaziranga National Park, under the aegis of Aaranyak, a leading nature and wildlife NGO of the State.

To create awareness among students and villagers, Arif Hussain, Aaranyak activist, conducted a quiz contest on the conservation of the one-horned rhinoceros.

UttamSaikia, honorary warden of the Kaziranga National Park, highlighted the significance of the day and mentioned the present rhino population, flood and poaching in and around the Kaziranga National Park and its adjoining areas.

RabindraSarmah, research officer of the Park, spoke in detail on the subject. Akash Phukan, social worker, appealed to the students and the public to create awareness among villagers for keeping a strict vigil on the activities of antisocial elements out to destroy wildlife.

Aaranyak also felicitated Mamoni Hazarika, headmistress of the high school.
