100 saplings planted

GUWAHATI, Aug 14 - Altogether 100 saplings were planted on the GeetaMandir hilltop yesterday by members of five organisations of greater Zoo-Narengi Road localities. Several senior citizens also took part in the programme.

Earlier, a meeting to generate awareness among the people on the importance of tree in maintaining an ambient temperature and in checking climate change was also held on the occasion, with Dwijen Bhattacharyya, president of Brihattar Zoo-NarengiAnchalikUnnayanSamiti, in the chair.

The meeting adopted a resolution opposing any move to allot the government and GeetaMandir land on the GeetaMandir hill to any government or private party. It demanded that the GeetaMandir hillock should be developed into a tourist destination.
