Palamu Tiger Reserve is gearing up for the maiden International Tiger Day scheduled to be organised on July 29. Sources said since four decades tiger day is not observed.

DFO Core Anil Kumar Mishra said, “We are set to observe this Day. But we want commoners to join us on this tiger day. Tigers are not anyone’s property nor are they of the PTR only. The tigers are for the entire human kind and let everyone rich or poor should observe this day with some feeling for their habitat, prey, life and freedom.”

Mishra added said, “We have been observing various days and birth and death anniversaries of the golden souls of the world. But we never have any time for the tiger and this International Tiger Day will at least make every one sit and think what if tiger goes out of the globe.”

The PTR is mooting the idea to have a ‘Walk For the Tiger’ on this Day.

The official said, “We will appeal to the schools and NGOs and the commoners to walk for the tiger in order to create awareness among the people as to of what prime importance the existence of tiger is for the mankind.”

An interactive session on tiger conservation is to be held in KGB residential school in Barwadeeh on this day also. PTR observed GajDiwas( Elephants’ Day) wherein the two domesticated elephants Juhi and Anarkali are garlanded and are taken out majestically out of the

National Park Betla and children of government schools are given a free elephant ride on the GajDiwas.

Mishra further said, “We are contemplating to launch Tigers’ Friend on this day wherein any conscious citizen and student of school or college, women, farmers or anyone having love and interest in wild life be free to register himself or herself in this Tigers’ Friend group for the cause of the conservation of the most poaching prone species the tiger.”
