Assam Police on Sunday arrested a person for killing a rhinoceros four years ago, said a senior officer.

Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended the suspect from a hideout in Morigaon district.

Additional Superintendent of Police, R. K. Handique, said the accused would be produced in a court to seek police remand.

"He was involved in a rhinoceros poaching case in 2012. He himself hunted down the animal. We are going to produce him before a court today and seek five or six days of police remand. Let us see what happens," Handique said.

Though the rhinoceros is an endangered species, poaching is not uncommon in Assam, which is home to the Kaziranga National Park.
