Members of the Environment Conservation Group, Nature Conservation Society, World Wildlife Fund, a few other environment organisations and nature enthusiasts met in the city on Saturday to discuss ways and means to mitigate human-wildlife conflict in the district.

According to R. Mohammad Saleem, president, Environment Conservation Group, those who attended the meeting spoke of challenges the Forest Department faced, how the environmentalists could play a role in mitigating human-animal conflict by supporting the Department staff, how they could educate people living in the periphery and to prevail upon officials to strictly enforce various rules and laws.

One of the things that came up for discussion was the strict enforcement of HACA rules and action against violators. The members present also decided to form forest range-wise committees to help the Department’s anti-poaching volunteers.

They also decided to study various conflict points along the elephant migratory path.
