Nagpur: The Wildlife Protection Force of Vidarbha ( WPFV ), a federation of NGOs, has announced a Rs1 lakh reward to nab dreaded tiger poacher Kuttu ChhiyalalRajgond , who has been absconding for the past seven months.

The WPFV has also demanded that CBI issue a red corner notice against Kuttu. A memorandum in this regard has already been submitted to chief minister DevendraFadnavis and forest minister SudhirMungantiwar.

Taking to newsmen, president of WPFV Mahesh Nimbarte said Kuttu had escaped from Bhandara police's custody on January 21.

Kuttu was arrested in April 2015 amid high drama from Biruhali in Katni (MP). He was directly involved in skinning and deboning of tigers in Paoni range of Bhandara. The Kuttu gang used to operate in entire Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) landscape and killed several tigers in forest areas of Gondia, Tumsar, Sakoli and Bhandara.

The WPFV office-bearers said though several tiger poaching cases have been cracked in the last two years, the poaching threat still looms large over the landscape as many poachers are still at large.

Two tigers from NNTR — Dendu and Alpha — are missing and there is no direct or indirect evidence to show these tigers are alive. "We demand that fresh probe should be conducted into missing of these two Nagzira tigers," the delegation said.
