‘Planting of Saplings Week’ inaugurated in Udupi

Shivashankar B. Amarannavar, Principal District and Sessions Judge, said on Monday that planting saplings was the best way to tackle global warming and climate change.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Planting of Saplings Week organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Departments of Public Instruction and Forests, and Udupi Bar Association at the premises of Vivekananda Government Composite High School, here.

Mr. Amarannavar said that students had a vital role to play in protection of environment. They should not just plant saplings but also water and protect them until they grew to a reasonable height.

The DLSA has been organising the Planting Saplings Week for the last few years. This year too, saplings would be planted for a week in different educational institutions in different places, Mr. Amarannavar said.

Latha, member-secretary, DLSA, Satishbaba Rai, Assistant Conservator of Forests, K. Dayananda, President of Udupi Bar Association and Ramesh H., Range Forest Officer, were present.

In the next six days, saplings would be planted in six different places, including Government High School at Indiranagar on July 19, Government Pre-University College at Udyavar on July 20, Gandhi Centenary Primary School at Malpe on July 21, Government Model Higher Primary School in Kaup on July 22, Mahadevi High School in Kaup on July 23 and Government High School in Manipura on July 25.
