160 poaching snares seized in Nalgonda

HYDERABAD: In a raid on 20 houses of Gourelli village in Nacharammandal of Nalgonda district by Anti-poaching staff, Hyderabad on Friday, as many as 160 snares and raw material for making them were seized.

The snare makers had fled the scene before the raid and couldn't be nabbed. Snares are used to entangle animals ranging from hares, wild pigs to sloth bears.

Many of the snare makers are not aware that their produce is used by poachers to trap and kill animals. The sarpanch of the village assured that snare-making would be stopped immediately.

Snare making is punishable offence under Wildlife (P) Act, 1972 with imprisonment upto 3 years and fine uptoRs 25,000.
