Nagpur: Taking note of news '3,988 trees felled in five years, most in 2015-16' published in TOI , a delegation of Green Vigil Foundation on Friday objected to the civic body's move to chop off 108 trees in Wadi for a bus depot,

Green Vigil members met NMC's garden superintendent SudhirMatey and argued that Wadi was prone to air pollution due to heavy vehicular traffic and hence cutting down trees will be devastating for the area.

Earlier, the NGO had saved 50 trees after a joint survey was carried out near Maharajbagh.

Green Vigil's founder President Kaustav Chatterjee said the NGO was not against development but it needs to be sustainable. Matey assured to assign an official to escort Green Vigil volunteers to site next week and that no tree will be cut before the inspection.
