A way of life

Ahead of the International Yoga Day on June 21, a build-up yoga session was organized by theministry of AYUSH, supported by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), at this Sunday's Raahgiri, supported by The Times of India. Raahgirs turned out in large numbers to practice various Yoga asanas on a sunny Sunday morning. "This is one of the seven venues for the International Yoga Day and this one is the major location. We are expecting at least 10,000 participants for the main event and the idea is to make our youth aware about yoga," said Dinesh Katoch, adviser, ministry of AYUSH.

Importance of yoga

VijayshreeSahgal, who came for the session, told us, "Today we practised some basic asanas which everybody can do easily. I came here only for this session as I can't imagine my life without yoga. It's important for one's mental, physical and spiritual being."

Talk about it

Kids from the age group of eight to 12 performed a street play, 'Good Touch Bad Touch'. The play explained to children about the need to talk about sexual abuse. Roopa Jena, one of the parents present at Raahgiri, told us, "It's important for kids to know about the issue. When they will know about it, they can talk about it and I am glad that kids are doing this through this art form."

Students of DU's Rajdhani College performed a nukkadnatak on air pollution. "We wanted to tell people about the issue and the effect it has on our environment. We are cutting trees for our needs and not even thinking about the environment," said Rajat Kumar, one of the members of the group. Vriti Jain, a student in the audience, shared, "I really like their theme. We need to focus on these problems, but the sad part is we only talk about them and do nothing about it."
