Every nook of the State capital on Sunday was flooded with slogans like save the mother earth, go green, ban polythene, go for massive plantation drive, etc in which from who’s who to commoners took active part. With the objective to create awareness on vital environmental issues and to impart healthy lifestyle among the denizens’ major corporate firms including NGOs and people residing in the State capital organised several programmes based on various environmental themes for clean and green Ranchi.
Governor Draupadi Murmu planted sapling in Raj Bhawan premises and urged the public to plant saplings on special occasions to make the occasions memorable ones. Approximately, 1,000 saplings were planted on the occasion of World Environment Day at Raj Bhawan. “I appreciate the efforts taken by the State Government for plantation drive being carried out. I request all the denizens to take such initiative and help the Government in its endeavour,” said the Governor.
To mark the World Environment Day, MECON is celebrating a week long programme by undertaking various activities. The event kicked off with plantation of auspicious plant ‘Kalpa Taru’ along with some native plant species on the occasion in the township area and bamboo plantation along with waste processing site. In an attempt to conserve water, the company personnel also initiated rain water harvesting scheme at ISPAT Hospital.
“The objective of organizing such programmes is to create awareness among the people regarding importance of the healthy and green environment in the human lives, climate change, air and water pollution, healthy human life and approaches to solve the environmental issues by implementing positive environment actions to make the world more sustainable through various activities,” said Mecon CMD, AK Tyagi while addressing the gathering on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Other green initiative undertaken by company include conservation of energy on office premises by replacing normal light bulbs with LEDs including the use of energy efficient techniques, afforestation programme in residential colony and replacement of street lights with LED lights in MECON colony.
Setting an example by harnessing renewable energy and energy optimization for the betterment of society and mankind, the company also took an initiative of establishing organic waste converter station in MECON colony for municipal solid waste processing by the end of 2016 and will also establish solar water heating system at ISPAT Hospital.
CMPDI officials also planted trees on campus premises and gave emphasis on using alternate sources of energy which are environment friendly. CCL CMD, Gopal Singh in his address congratulated all the directors, officers, employees and children present and said that the goal of environmental protection should be pursued with honesty and commitment.
Approximately 65 per cent of electricity production in the country is from coal. Coal companies should religiously try to minimise the environmental damage while mining coal.
