World Environment Day observed

World Environment Day was observed under the auspices of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited at Dalmiapuram near here.

Nawab John, District Environmental Engineer (in-charge), Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, planted saplings to mark the inaugural of the observance.

Rainwater harvesting

He said conservation of natural resources and fauna and flora was the responsibility of every individual. He also emphasised the need for harvesting rain water, adopting economy in power consumption, no-plastic movement and zero-pollution atmosphere.

Protect flora

Explaining the current year’s theme “Zero Tolerance for the Illegal Wildlife trade”, he called upon the employees of the Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited to fight against illegal poaching and trade in wildlife to help protect fauna, flora and bio-diversity.

R.A.Krishnakumar, Executive Director, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd., said the company had taken up a “Green Dalmiapuram” initiative and congratulated the employees on their achievement in setting up an eco park on the premises of the company and its mines at Kovandakurichi.

Earlier, a programme on planting of nurseries at the factory and mines area was taken up in which employees, their family members, students and office bearers of Ladies Club participated.
