At least three spotted deer and two monkeys died after allegedly consuming water from a pond in Barnawapara region in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh, said officials of Forest Department on Monday.
Confirming the incident, Chief Conservator Forest (CCF) K Murugan said that after consuming suspected urea mixed water from a pond, three spotted deer and two monkeys had died at Bhalupani Village in Barnawapara region.
A team has been dispatched to the spot and anything in this connection could only be said after conduct of necessary investigation, added Murugan.
According to the departmental sources, after being informed about the death of animals by villagers, forest officials rushed to the region for investigation.
Initial investigation suggests that urea mixed water may possibly be the cause of the death of animals.
Officials are probing the matter very minutely and also launched an intense search to nab people involved in the crime.
Veterinary doctors have collected water samples from nearby water bodies and viscera of dead animals for examination and will soon submit the report.
Meanwhile, officials did not rule out the possibility that for poaching of spotted dear, unidentified miscreants may have poisoned the water body and reportedly escaped with some bodies of spotted dears leaving around five animals at the spot.
