3 held for poaching chinkaras

Rajkot: The Bhavnagar forest department has arrested three persons for killing chinkaras. All three poachers were locals and they were arrested on March 31, sources in the department said.

Forest officials had kept a watch near Piparala village near Sihore after getting a tipoff that the poachers were planning to kill wild animals.

The accused were identifi ed as Shivbhandrasinh Gohil, Pravin Vaghela, both residents of Sihor town and Shamji Gohel, a resident of Piparala village.

"The poachers confessed that they had killed three chinkaras, one wild boar and rabbits for their consumption. If they could not eat the meat, they used to sell the animals to their acquaintances," a senior forest department official told TOI. Forest officials said that there are two more persons involved in this wildlife crime and hunt is on to nab them.

After their interrogation, the trio was produced before a local court that sent them to jail. They are lodged in Sihor jail.

"Chinkaras are found Piparala, Chorvadla village and mountainous ranges of Sihor of Bhavnagar," said an official.
