andrapur: Autopsy carried out on the carcass of leopard found in Bhadrawati on Thursday confirmed that beast had died in the fight with other wild animals. Veterinary doctor, who performed the post mortem, ruled out poaching and inferred that the leopard had died due to multiple injures sustained during fight with wild animals.

A full-grown leopard was found dead in plantation area under Karnataka Emta coal mine near Piparbodi village in Bhadrawati range on Wednesday evening. Forest officers led by DFO RT Dhabekhar had rushed to the spot and took possession of the body. As it was late in the night,, the post mortem was done on Thursday morning.

Livestock development officer Dr Bawne conducted the post mortem at the spot in the presence of ACF Rajiv Pawar, RFO RM Talande and honorary wildlife warden BanduDhotre. "There was many injuries on leopard's body. It is likely that beast had clashed with higher predator like tiger or other leopard and was hurt grievously," said RFO, Bhadrawati, Talande.

Foresters have recovered a partially eaten carcass of cow near the spot. They suspect that predators had fought over the kill, which led to death of leopard.

The remains were cremated in presence of witnesses at the same spot.
