New norms for environmental clearance

The Hindu , Wednesday, February 17, 2016
Correspondent :
The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has recently reconstituted the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) for the Union Territory of Puducherry.

The project proponents seeking environmental clearance either from the MoEF&CC for Category ‘A’ projects or from the SEIAA of Puducherry for Category ‘B’ projects covered under Environment Impact Assessment Notification, 2006 need to apply online only.

With effect from March 1, 2016, no manual application will be entertained.

The project proponents can apply by logging in the following website: environmentclearance.nic.inl.

For each project proponent, a separate user login and password will be created for reference and further communication.

This procedure is introduced to ensure transparency and also to avoid repeated visits to the office concerned by the project proponent.

Each stage of processing of the application, any query or clarification will be communicated online.

Hence, all the project proponents and the NABET/QCJ accredited consultants who are preparing EIA reports are hereby advised to follow online application submission for seeking environmental clearance with effect from March 1, 2016.

No manual applications will be entertained on or after that date, a press release stated.
