Delhi's most-wanted: Return of odd-even plan

The Delhi government's ambitious odd-even survey plan received a big boost as majority of the Delhites turned in favour of the plan and wanted it back in March.

As many as 18,000 people responded to the survey with 7,000 via mail and 11,000 through website, oddevenidea.delhi.gov.in. 92 per cent of the 7,000 mail responses and 82 per cent of the 11,000 website responses were in support of the odd-even exercise on the Delhi roads.

The Delhi government that claimed to have brought down the pollution level approximately 20-25 per cent in the city during their 15-day odd-even trial, launched the website to receive public feedback.

The odd-even scheme is a step towards controlling the road traffic and air pollution by reducing the vehicular congestion on the roads. Under this scheme the mobility of the vehicles on the roads is determined by the last digit of their vehicle's registration ends.

While the overall impact may be debatable, Delhiites have given thumbs up to the road rationing scheme. However, many respondents raised questions over the exemptions given to two wheelers and women drivers.
