NAVI MUMBAI: Residents of two sectors (11 and 1) in Koperkhairne have complained about nullah and air pollution. They complain about breathing and also skin related problems.

Vikram Nanda, who shifted from Sanpada to the node around one-and-a -half years ago said, ever since we changed homes my youngest son, Yuveer has had to use the asthma pump to get relief. A test showed high level of allergy. Both my elder son and myself have also taken a health hit, but the younger one is worst hit. There is air pollution from the nearby railway yard because of loading of stone chips while the nullah gives foul order. It is always safe to be indoors as the air also gets hazy because of pollution and VikramTomar of sector 1 sai, there are skin related problems of some and the nullah in our area also emanates foul smell. We are rather concerned.''

Hemant Sahay with the NGO-DishaParivartan foundation told TOI, we are monitoring the health of the residents and also aiding them to get appropriate action. Pollution is a problem in the area and the MPCB ought to take action from units flouting the norms.''

MPCB, regional officer (RO), N. Lohalkar told TOI Monday, we have issued a show cause notice to one unit as their air monitoring equipment was not found complying with the norms and also in the process of investigating about units who could be held responsible for pollution.''

S K Sinha, a senior citizen of sector 11 said, the colour of the nullah water keeps changing --- yellow, green and some units must be disgorging untreated effluents in the nala. I have been suffering from cough and cold and it is continuing.''

The small scale units in the TTC area across the Thane Belapur road asked for proper monitoring and prompt action against those violating environment norms. Strong action ought to be taken as only a few can bring a bad name to all of us.''
