NOIDA: The UP transport department has directed the regional transport officers to conduct an enforcement drive against polluting vehicles and their emission inspection in a month-long drive. Commuters will have to show their pollution-under-control (PUC) certificate when asked for during the drive.

The department has also asked the ARTO to conduct the enforcement drive on the authorised pollution checking centres to ensure that they follow standard norms and practices to keep a check on pollution. Violations may lead to cancellation of the pollution centres.

RachnaYaduvanshi, ARTO (administration) Noida said that the regional transport department will take immediate action against visibly polluting vehicles. "The enforcement drive will be conducted till January 31. Polluting vehicles would be seized. We will also carry out checks of old vehicles which do not have fitness certificates," she said. The drive is aimed at controlling air pollution in the city.

The move coincides with Delhi government's odd even rule enforced for 15 days of this month.
