With air quality becoming a serious issue in the National Capital Region, clean air has never been more important. We have all heard of atmospheric pollution, caused by vehicular emissions, dust generated by construction activity and burning of crop stubble. But have you heard about indoor air pollution? Well, this is attributed to high pollution levels in our living rooms, caused by pollen, allergens, surface adhering mold, fine dust and clinging odours like cigarette smoke, even the dust brought in our homes by our flurry friends after their daily walks. Whether outside or inside, the high prevalence of pollution has caused a rise in cases of new onset of asthma or a degree of breathlessness. To put it in simple words, residents in NCR are gasping for fresh air, and children and elderly people are the worst affected.

For years, Kent RO Systems ensured that we drink pure water; this time around its gadgets hold the promise to enable us to breathe pure air too. This New Delhi-based firm has introduced a whole new range of HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) based air purifiers. Two new models have been introduced, Kent Aura air purifier and Kent Eternal air purifier. Both are HEPA pure technology based models that remove dangerous particulates from air. We got the Aura for a product review, it retails for R15,000, let us check out whether it delivers on its promise of giving us pure and fresh air.

Out of the box, the Aura resembles a pleasing and neat-looking piece of equipment that will surely not look odd in your office space or the living room. I have installed the device in my bedroom for over two weeks now and take my word, the Aura does a pretty good job in making the room pollution-free. However, keep the doors and windows shut when you switch it on.

Basically, the Aura is a smart device that cleanses air silently, unlike other purifiers. It uses dust sensors to monitor the quality of air and works well in 270 square feet rooms. This air purifier is

capable of removing dust, allergens, chemicals, odours, and other indoor air pollutants from rooms at home and workplace.

It is not an arduous task to set up the Aura. With pedestal mode of installation, it is extremely convenient to use and install the machine. Connect the machine to a power source and the air purifier comes to life in an instant. What impressed me most was the machine’s extremely silent operation. The power button is at the top along with a button to select the speed. It has 8 hour timer function and three different speed levels for customised requirements. For convenience, the air purifier is pre-equipped with filter replacement indicators. The Aura is enabled with a child lock feature ensuring that the little monsters in your house don’t make any unwanted changes in settings of purifier.

The Kent air purifier uses the tested and proven HEPA technology from Japan, to catch and trap harmful pollutants, which are otherwise known to cause serious health hazards. HEPA filters have the efficiency to catch and trap indoor carcinogens particles like PM 2.5 particulates (removes upto 99.99%), pollen, allergens, surface adhering mold, fine dust and clinging odours like cigarette smoke, foul smells or pet odour. The HEPA filter comes with a special coating which eliminates bacteria from the air. Additionally, the in-built ioniserionises air around making it fresher and leaving you with an elevated mood.

The Aura has inbuilt intelligent light sensors which continuously monitor the air quality in the room to adjust clean air flow in accordance to the air quality. The air quality is indicated by a glowing LED. The air purifier has an

inbuilt filter change alarm for a complete peace of mind. The filter change alarm sets off whenever it is time to replace the filter. With a clean air delivery rate of 180m3/ hour, the Aura can purify the air inside the room pretty quickly.

My takeaways: the Kent Aura air purifier does a good job at improving the quality of air indoors and gives healthier air. A must-have equipment for those living in smog-infested regions, as well as for those people with allergies and respiratory diseases.
