NOIDA: Even as Delhi goes hammer and tongs to control air-pollution, its neighbor Noida too is not far away. The district magistrate of GautamBudh Nagar, NP Singh has engaged all NGOs, environmental activists and citizen groups to come up with creative and concrete ideas to curb air, water and noise pollution in Noida and Greater Noida in the year ahead. The Magistrate has started meeting people on a daily basis starting January one and the process in going to continue for some time.
"I want to meet all pro-active citizens or pressure groups who work for the benefit of Noida and Greater Noida. I have met citizen's groups, I have met environmental activists. I'm also keen on meeting anyone who has a fresh idea or a good suggestion so that we can work on a clean and green city," GB Nagar DM, NP Singh said.
Among some of the issues which Singh has already take up for possible resolution are air pollution generated at builder sites; ground water contamination in Greater Noida villages and ground water depletion.
"We have already started taking action by introducing zonal initiatives about industry and school opening and closing. We wish to take some more well directed steps to curb pollution and pollution related health hazards in GautamBudh Nagar. We hope that over the year, some radical improvements will be seen in Noida and Greater Noida," Singh added.
"We have tabled all our concerns with the DM. He has heard out all environment workers in the district and I hope all the concerns addressed proactively. We have offered full support for any pro-active measures to be taken by the office of the District Magistrate for anti-pollution measures or environmental protection," Vikrant Tongad, Founder of Social Action For Forests and Environment, said.
