GURGAON: Officials of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) carried out a surprise inspection of four major authorised pollution check centres in the city on Monday and found three centres to be issuing fake pollution under control (PUC) certificates to vehicle owners. These three centres didn't have any equipment to conduct emission tests of vehicles.
These centres will be soon issued show-cause notices and appropriate action would be taken if they fail to provide satisfactory replies, a senior official of the regional transport authority (RTA) said.
The inspection was carried out after deputy commissioner T L Satyaprakash issued an order (a copy of which is with TOI) to the departments concerned, including regional transport authority (RTA) and HSPCB, to conduct inspection of vehicles and pollution check centres at regular intervals to bring down the levels of air pollution in the city.
A team of HSPCB visited the four centres in a private vehicle and requested them to issue PUC certificate. "We were shocked to find out that three centres simply entered the details of our vehicle in a computer and issued the certificate within a few minutes. They didn't have any equipment to check the emission of pollutants by the vehicle," said RanbirRathi, environmental engineer at HSPCB.
The three centres are Shiv Automobile pollution checking centre, Nirmala Devi pollution checking centre and JS pollution checking centre. While the first two are located near on Rajiv Chowk, the third one is situated near Jharsa Chowk. However, LB Garg pollution checking centre, located opposite the 32nd Milestone on NH-8, was found to be equipped with proper machinery.
