NEW DELHI: Delhi government is all set to organise the third car-free day on Vikas Marg between NirmanVihar Metro station and Laxmi Nagar. During this, DTC will be running a shuttle service between AnandVihar and ITO on Tuesday.

Though a small stretch, Vikas Marg is well-connected with public transport falling on the Metro route and with a good bus service. Despite that, the road is frequently jammed due to massive unauthorised parking on both sides of the commercial stretch.

"The shuttle service, for which 8-10 buses would be used, will be in addition to the regular bus service. These will be operated between AnandVihar and ITO at a frequency of five minutes. The service will run from 8am to 4pm," said an official.

On Sunday, a padyatra was taken out on the road by several MLAs as an initiative to encourage people to participate in the car-free day. Sources said that meetings were being held with commercial establishments since the past month.

The government will also re-launch PoochO, the auto app on Tuesday. Under this, autorickshaw and taxi operators will start registering themselves with the app. This is be promoted in a big way by the government from January 1 when the state intends launching the odd-even formula for cars to reduce air pollution.

Meanwhile, traffic police said that diversions would be in place as the stretch is one of the busiest during peak hours. Vehicles from PreetVihar and SwasthyaVihar using Vikas Marg have been asked to take the inroads through Shakarpur or reach NH-24 and take the Akshardham route. Vehicles coming from AnandVihar would be diverted through the Master Plan Road to reach the Geeta Colony Road and then be allowed to enter Vikas Marg.

Residents and shopkeepers have been asked not to park their vehicles on Vikas Marg. Police said that they would also conduct a drive to decongest the stretch during the same time. About 50 policemen would be deployed to enforce the diversions.

Cops said that the stretch between NirmanVihar and Laxmi Nagar would also be a no stopping zone except for DTC buses that would be allowed to ply in one lane. DTC has also been intimated about the arrangements.
