UP advises Centre to clear Jewar site to decrease Delhi pollution

DELHI: UP government has advised the Centre to speed up process for second airport in UP to reduce Delhi air pollution. The state government has already started process for completing formalities to apply Jewar proposed site for second airport. The government officials said that the process for apply will be completed within 15 days. Notably half of Delhi is no flying zone.

And due to overburden of air traffic sometimes plans have to take rounds on air due to air traffic jam. This doesn't only lead to national loss (due to fuel loss) but also lead to air pollution and massive traffic jam in Delhi. According to estimates one and 1500 flights daily operated from Delhi and between one 1-1.5 lakh people travel thorough Delhi airport.

"Delhi is engulfed in massive pollution problem. Delhi badly need a plan to deal with the pollution. Once second airport is operational it will help in controlling the national capital pollution," said Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway industrial development authorities chairman Rama Raman.

With the intention to develop international airport in Jewar, UP chief minister recently had sent letter to prime minister Narendra Modi.

Yadav said that his government intend to develop airports both in Jewar.

Yadav in his letter to the Centre had said that Jewar will off load Delhi international airport traffic. "If we get Centre nod for Jewar, work can be start within months. We have earmarked land for Jewar and have most of necessary approvals in place to start construction of airport," he had said.

The officials said that the approvals were obtained during Mayawati government and these approvals are still valid.

A senior government official said that UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav during his recent visit in Delhi had a meeting with Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway industrial development authorities chairman Rama Raman on airport issue. The CM had asked him to start process of applying for Jewar site. The proposal to be submitted by state government and UP aviation department.

"We have given task to complete application process for Jewar site. We have formed a team working on the project. We are expecting to apply Jewar as proposed site for second international airport in NCR with Centre within 15 days," said Rama Raman, chairman of three development authorities in Gautambudh Nagar.

Mahesh Sharma, before joining as civil aviation minister in government of India had promised to revive Jewar airport project. Later, some news had also pop up that Bhiwadi in BJP-ruled Rajasthan is set to house the second airport in the National Capital Region of Delhi.
