Conference on air pollution at CEE next month

AHMEDABAD: Over 100 representatives from the government, NGOs and educational institutes will meet in December at Centre for Environment Education (CEE) to discuss issues related to air pollution in Gujarat and the rest of the country. The representatives will be participating in 'Aerospectrum' to share their views.

Organizers said the steady spread of urbanization, phenomenal increase in the number of vehicles and development have contributed to rapid deterioration in air quality. This has created health-related problems in Gujarat and India that are responsible for thousands of deaths in the country every year.

"Hence, CEE, NEERI and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) decided to organize a conference for capacity building and discussing contemporary issues, including status of air pollution, its aspects and mitigation measures," said a CEE official. The event will be held on December 9.

Organisations and institutes like the IITs, NEERI, GPCB, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH) and CEE are expected to take part in the conference. Experts will discuss strategic matter such as design and development of air pollution control systems, air quality monitoring and its management, effects of air pollutants on health problems related to vehicular pollution, role and significance of continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) in industrial and other sectors, in addition to other problems arising out of air pollution.
