Development Commissioner and ACS Forest and Environment UN Behera has called for a coordinated approach for tackling the climate change in Odisha.

Addressing a workshop on the theme ‘Climate Change Action Plan 2015-20’ on Friday, Behera said a large number of population, mostly poor, dependent on natural resources are affected by climate change.

He said a need to tackle the situation was felt five years ago and Odisha prepared the State Climate Change Action Plan in 2010 for the first time in the country.

Stating that different departments of the State Government have achieved good results in this regard, Behera said the State Government is committed to tackle the ill-effects of climate change despite resources crunch. Budgetary provisions are being made in this regard, he added.

The Agriculture, Disaster Management and Water Resources departments are required to prepare adequate action plans while Energy, Forest and Urban Development Departments should endeavour to reduce the impact of climate change.

Behera said the State Government would take up the second phase of its ambitious Action Plan soon which would continue till 2020.
