3 rare species of migratory birds spotted at Chilka

| Counting of the Asian migratory birds has started in Chilka lake. As per the Asian Migratory Bird Counting Organisation Chilika, more than 12 lakh migratory birds visited Chilka lake in 2005.
Out of the 12 lakh migratory birds three rare species wer spotted at Chilka lake after a span of 22 years. They are Laser Avenutant, Malard and Bolaijhil migratory birds. With the rise in temperature, the migratory birds are returning.
The birds had come for nesting in October. The Government has now banned the use of motorboats in the largest brackish water lake and has also banned fishing in Nalabana bird sanctuary. The forest department has deployed guards to control bird poaching. The wild life division has filed 11 cases and arrested 23 bird poachers in 2005.
