KOCHI: The French international agency, Conference on Development and Improvement of Urban Transport (CODATU), a non-profit-making organisation, has included Kochi in the list of 100 world modal cities for eco-friendly urban mobility programmes.

A delegation from CODATU will visit Kochi by the end of this month.

They will hold discussions with various stakeholders of the city’s development on various eco-friendly urban mobility plans. The agency will help Kochi in raising funds for capacity building and in providing necessary technical assistance to implement the plan. The agency will implement the ‘model city project’ ahead of the World Climate Summit to be held in France next year.

CODATU is an associate of the Agence Francaise de Developpement, agency providing external borrowings to Kochi Metro Rail project.

One of the major objectives of the programme is to help cities in implementing climate-friendly, inclusive and sustainable urban mobility for passengers and freight movement. The agency will help strengthen the existing urban mobility planning along with formulating new policies, said a top KMRL official.
