2 Arrested for Poaching Deer

COIMBATORE: Forest officials in the Nilgiris on Friday arrest two persons allegedly for poaching spotted deer and a fawn. They also seized 15 kilograms of deer meat, a country made gun and gun powder from the accused.

The duo were identified as Mutti Sundaram (62) and Jijin Mohanan (26), of Manvayal near Gudalur. They were booked under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The incident happened at Nanbikundu in the Mudumalai range of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.

“In addition to the tiger squad, we have also formed a special team to prevent poaching during the rainy season. We have also set up an anti-poaching camp in the border area adjoining Gudalur,” said Karaikudi Ranger S Kaanthan.

The arrested duo has been remanded in prison.
