The Delhi High Court has directed the Union Government to come up with an action plan to deal with air pollution in the Capital, while expressing concern over the “bureaucratic apathy” on the issue and the worsening situation caused by unchecked felling of trees.

A Division Bench of the High Court, said the action plan should address specifics with regard to nature of pollutants found in the air. The Court also said more monitoring stations, in addition to the 17 functioning at present, should be established in Delhi.

The Bench asked the Delhi Development Authority, Public Works Department, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Delhi Government to submit their reports and affidavits regarding cutting and replanting of trees in various parts of the city.
